Santa Barbara free-diver spearfishing competition
Santa Barbara freediver spearfishing competition for 2023 was interesting. Normally the competitors that boat out to the channel islands come in with their coolers stuffed with fish, and the divers locally come in with a collection of smaller fish. This year there were over 40 competitors, and all the boaters got skunked. No fish except one opaleye, which was immediately disqualified as "not a game fish". LOL.
Adam Sachs, the 2023 winner of this year’s Santa Barbara freedivers club competition had an astounding 46.7lb White Sea bass. Winning him a Rob Allen 90 cm, the workhorse of spearguns! This prize was provided by Blue Water Hunter. Todd Henderson White Sea bass came in at 32 pounds, for a solid second place finish!
